Last week, or more precisely at the start of this week, Arsenal's footballers faced a rearranged fixture from the thirty-seventh round of the Premier League against Burnley. Arsenal managed to win their final home league match of the season, beating the second-to-last team in the table by the narrowest possible margin. However, history won't be asking about that. The most crucial task was to secure three points, and that's precisely what Mikel Arteta's players achieved. Arsenal now have a five-point lead over second-placed Manchester City, who, however, still have two league games to play, the first of which is tonight at the Vitality Stadium. Therefore, if Pep Guardiola's charges, who will leave the Manchester team's dugout after the season, do not win tonight, Arsenal will sit on the English football throne after twenty-two years. In the opposite scenario, the champions will be decided in the final round. And then there's another huge event awaiting the Gunners: the Champions League final, but we'll discuss that next time.

Premier League
- Another close, but extremely important Premier League victory this time, with the only goal of the match being scored by Kai Havertz, which came about after a corner kick Bukayo Saka.
- This was Arsenal's eighteenth goal from a corner kick this league season, a goal with which they bettered their own competition record.
- The German attacking versatile player became the central figure of the evening not only by scoring the winning goal. In the second half, he somewhat clumsily fouled an opposing player in such a way that he should have been clearly sent off. To the surprise of all the fans, the referee, even after reviewing the situation on video, stuck to the originally awarded yellow card.
- I wrote in the last instalment about David Raya winning his third Premier League Golden Glove in a row. In the match against Burnley, however, the Spanish goalkeeper kept another clean sheet, his nineteenth, which has equalled David Seaman's club record. Therefore, in the final round at Selhurst Park, Raya can set a new club record.
- Arsenal, following their home victory against Burnley, has the fate of the Premier League in their own hands with one round remaining. Tonight, Bournemouth, who are hosting Manchester City, could help them secure the championship title. Any slip-up by the Cityzens would mean that the North London footballers become champions regardless of the final round's results. Otherwise, we are in for drama right up until the very end of the competition.

- Three Arsenal players have been shortlisted for the Premier League Player of the Season award: David Raya, Gabriel and Declan Rice.
- Max Dowman He has won an award which, in its original title, is called the „Premier League Home Grown Debutant of the Season Award“. It is presented to young players who broke into senior football in that season and also made their mark in their debut season. In the case of Max Dowman, these are historic marks.
- At 15 years and 235 days old, Max Dowman became the second youngest player in Premier League history (the record is still held by Ethan Nwaneri, who debuted at the age of 15 years and 181 days)
- At 16 years and 73 days old, he became the Premier League's youngest ever goalscorer, extending his side's lead with a solo run from his own half into an empty Everton net to seal his team's victory.
- David Raya has won the Premier League Player of the Month award for Matchweek 36, in which he kept a clean sheet away at West Ham, helping Arsenal to vital points in the table. The highlight of his performance was undoubtedly his save against a certain goal chance from Mateus Fernandes.
Next week's programme
After an exhausting season, Arsenal players face their final league match at Selhurst Park, where they will take on hosts Crystal Palace. All matches of the thirty-eighth round of the top English competition are traditionally scheduled for the same day and time, specifically on Sunday, 24th May 2026, from 17:00 (CET). I will borrow a phrase that many players of the North London club themselves have used several times on social media: „One last push“. At least in the Premier League, that is, because the Champions League final is still ahead of us, which is scheduled for the end of May.
