The burly Brazilian stopper, who has been largely behind the Canaries' defensive success, joined Arsenal from French side Lille back in 2020. He has seen a significant turnover in the squad during his time in north London. In the 2022/2023 season, he has brought in a new partner for the centre of defence, William Salibawith whom they developed into one of the best stopper duos in the world over the following years. Gabriel's style of play is based primarily on his physical strength and combativeness. Despite the fact that his primary role is defensive, he also has a role to play on offense. And not in a small way. The 6'9" Brazilian is often the recipient of offensive standard situations from which he can score goals. The clear proof is that Gabriel is second in the historical tables in the number of goals scored in an Arsenal jersey among defenders. The Arsenal fans' chant that describes him as a player is: "You'll fall in love, I know you will, our number 6 is the King of Brazil! Our centre half, he'll give you hell, our wall at the back is Gabriel. Ole ole, ole ola!".
