Arsenal Weekly Vol. 14
All essential information, news and interesting facts from events surrounding the club from the last week of April [27. 4. – 3. 5. 2026]

Arsenal's footballers have had a demanding but generally successful week, and another demanding week awaits them this time. This is because the second leg of the Champions League semi-final is on the agenda, to which the charges Mikel Arteta's will take place at the Emirates Stadium tomorrow. After that, Arsenal will feature in a small London derby in the thirty-sixth round of the Premier League at the London Stadium, where they will face West Ham. Although this match may seem like one that can be categorised as easier at first glance, appearances are deceiving. The Hammers must fight for survival in the top flight in the remaining three rounds, and so Arsenal, which is dealing with the opposite concerns, will certainly not get anything for free from West Ham; quite the opposite. The season is reaching its climax, both in the domestic Premier League and in the Champions League, and the tension is growing with each passing day. We have much to look forward to!

News and attractions

Champions League

  • The match, featuring two different halves and controversial penalty incidents, ultimately ended in a 1-1 draw, which, from Arsenal's perspective, is not a bad result at all. The decision on who advances to the Champions League final will be made in North London, so Arsenal will be able to benefit from the home advantage.
  • Arsenal reached the Champions League final for the first and last time exactly twenty years ago in the 2005/2006 season, where, after Jens Lehmann's early dismissal, they were unable to overcome Barcelona, losing 1-2. Can Mikel Arteta follow in the footsteps of, or even surpass, the legendary Arsène Wenger? We will have to wait a little longer for the answer, as Arsenal's next steps in the Champions League begin on Tuesday 5th May 2026 at 21:00.

Premier League

  • Arsenal, playing at home against Fulham, lived up to their favourite status and convincingly won 3:0. In addition to the very important three points, the three goals scored will certainly be useful for Arsenal in the title race, which, combined with a clean sheet, means a +3 goal difference. Thanks to their victory in the small London derby, Mikel Arteta's side have moved six points clear of second-placed Manchester City at the top of the table, with the latter having two games in hand. The first of these is tonight at the Hill Dickinson Stadium against Everton, and the second is at home against Crystal Palace in just under two weeks.
  • I've already written about Arsenal's clean sheet a moment ago, but there's another interesting point related to it. David Raya This was the seventeenth clean sheet he has kept in the current Premier League season, surpassing his personal best in the top English league. For definitive certainty in winning his third consecutive Golden Glove, he needs to maintain just one more clean sheet. Alternatively, the Spanish goalkeeper will be satisfied if Gianluigi Donnarumma concedes a goal on Everton's ground this evening.
  • Arsenal finally showed some attacking prowess too, and so the Swedish striker clearly became the star of the match Viktor Gyökeres, who was involved in all his team's goals. He scored two himself and assisted the third. Interestingly, this was Gyökeres's very first assist in the Premier League. The impressively recovered player also shone. Bukayo Saka, who scored a goal and an assist in the match.
  • Myles Lewis-Skelly for the first time in his career, he started in the Premier League from the first minute in the midfield, and it must be said that his debut alongside Declana Rice It went excellently. Does the future of the young Englishman lie precisely in the centre of the pitch?
  • Max Dowman He has played in his fifth league match, so if Arsenal really dominate the English Premier League, the sixteen-year-old will receive a winner's medal and consequently become its youngest ever holder. But let's not get ahead of ourselves, the Gunners still have three league matches to play.

Other

  • Despite frequent criticism, Viktor Gyökeres has reached the 20-goal mark in all competitions in his debut season for the club with the cannon on his chest during the match against Fulham. With his second goal of the game, he opened his third decade of goals scored. In total, he has 21 goals and 3 assists for Arsenal. Let's hope he adds many more for the remainder of the season!
  • On the sick list, apart from the long-term absentee Mikel Merino are still featuring Jurriën Timber and Kai Havertz. After the match in Madrid, the unlucky one unfortunately joined them. Martin Ødegaard. Of course, various pieces of information about the players' health are already circulating on social media, but no statement regarding their availability has yet come from the club, or Mikel Arteta, respectively.
  • However, the one who has fully recovered from the injury is Riccardo Calafiori, who played the entire match against Fulham.

Next week's programme

Arsenal's calendar remains packed even at the end of the season. On Tuesday evening, Arsenal faces a home second leg of the Champions League semi-final against Atlético Madrid. It will start from scratch at the north London club, as the first encounter in Spain ended in a 1-1 draw. Therefore, it's one of the most important matches of the season for Arsenal tomorrow. In the domestic league, the Gunners will then head to the grounds of neighbours West Ham, where another tough battle is expected as the Hammers fight for survival in the competition.
