Arsenal Weekly Vol. 11
All essential information, news and interesting facts from the club's events from the second week of April [6 April – 12 April 2026]

Arsenal has had a rollercoaster of a week. First, the charges Mikel Arteta's they were undone by a late goal Kai Havertz Thanks to Kai Havertz's late goal, they brought a promising result back from Lisbon, where they defeated hosts Sporting in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-final. Arsenal will therefore go into Wednesday's second leg at the Emirates Stadium with a one-goal advantage. Until Saturday's match, everything in the north London club's camp appeared to be in perfect order, apart from the health issues of some players. Everything changed in the home league match against Bournemouth, which Arsenal surprisingly lost, significantly complicating their title bid. This is especially true when, in the next round of the Premier League, they travel to the Etihad Stadium for a direct title showdown with Manchester City. However, I will naturally get to all of that during the week in further posts; for now, let's look back at the most important and interesting events of the past week.

News and attractions

Champions League

  • As I've already revealed in the introduction, Arsenal managed the first leg of their quarter-final tie at Sporting's ground, winning 1:0. The Mikel Arteta's charges are a step closer to participating in the semi-finals than Sporting's players, but the slender lead still needs to be confirmed in the match in front of the home fans.
  • If Arsenal manage to advance past Sporting, they will face each other in the semi-finals with one of the pair of Spanish teams, namely Atlético Madrid and Barcelona. The capital city side is in a significantly more advantageous position before the second leg, having managed to win the first match at Camp Nou 2:0.

Premier League

  • Arsenal not only at home lost 1:2 to Bournemouth, but at the same time demonstrated Extremely sub-par performance, which was certainly not worthy of a team that should be aiming for the league title. Hopefully, not only the players but also Mikel Arteta himself will learn from this match, and we will see a completely different Arsenal for the rest of the season. Dominant, fearless, with desire and commitment from the first to the last minute.
  • Arsenal, despite the defeat The Premier League still in their hands, and therefore there is no need to jump to hasty conclusions. However, if the footballers from North London want to celebrate at the end of the season, then a drastic change in their style of play and quality of play must be evident in the remaining matches.
  • For the match against Bournemouth They didn't intervene at all Martin Ødegaard and Riccardo Calafiori (or rather, they were missing from the call-up) who still started the Champions League match against Sporting. Let's hope that none of the players have serious health problems.

Other

  • The questionnaire on Arsenal's Player of the Month for March was dominated by Eberechi Eze, which narrowly beat the second David Raya.
  • The questionnaire on goal of the month for March at Arsenal was won by the goal Max Dowman from a league match against Everton, which was the English youngster's first goal in the top English league. In case any of you didn't know, Dowman became the youngest ever scorer in the Premier League (16 years and 73 days) thanks to his precise strike into Everton's net.
    • Max Dowman's first goal can be replayed enjoy on footage directly from behind the goal on the Instagram profile True Gunner Photo HERE
  • Finally, allow me one Interesting tidbit, which is minimally, but still connected to Arsenal. Jack Wilshere, a Chelsea academy graduate who spent the vast majority of his playing career at the North London club, won his first trophy as a manager. Wilshere is currently managing on the bench for Luton, who are currently playing in League One (the third tier of English football). The former England international He won the EFL Trophy cup competition with his team, in which teams from the lower league tiers (League One, League Two) and under-21 teams from Premier League and Championship clubs compete. Congratulations!

Next week's programme

A week of truth, that's probably what you could call the week that awaits Arsenal's footballers. First up is Champions League quarter-final second leg against Sporting, in which Arsenal must unconditionally be considered the favourite on home turf. From my perspective The Gunners face the most important match of the season on Sunday when they head to the Etihad Stadium for a Premier League fixture.. Although it's „only“ the 33rd round, I dare to claim that the title could be decided in this match. Well, a really tough week is definitely awaiting us.
