The long wait for the return of club football is finally a thing of the past. At the weekend, or rather as early as Friday, the English Premier League got underway with a match featuring Arsenal, who welcomed newcomers Coventry to their home Emirates Stadium. A week earlier, Mikel Arteta's side, as reigning champions of the English league, featured in the FA Community Shield battle against Manchester City. Although Arsenal's pre-season did not go so well in terms of results, they managed the start of the new 2026/2027 season with flying colours. Both the match against Manchester City and the game against Coventry were handled with great poise by the North London footballers, and they won in both cases. Aside from the sporting side of things, it is also worth keeping an eye on events in the transfer market, which is slowly but surely approaching its deadline, meaning speculation and actual transfers are on the rise.

- Arsenal pod Mikel Arteta has won the Community Shield for the third time. The Spanish manager has a hundred per cent record in this competition, both as a player (2 wins from 2 matches) and as a manager (3 wins from 3 matches).
- In the aforementioned match, they made their competitive debuts in the shirt with the cannon on the chest Bruno Guimarães and Christos Tzolis. Particularly the Greek winger caught the eye with a very impressive performance, which he spiced up with two assists.
- Martin Ødegaard he got on the scoresheet in the Community Shield match against Manchester City as well as in the first round of the Premier League against Coventry, and after two competitive matches he therefore has more goals to his name than in the whole of last season, when he only managed to get on the scoresheet once (in the Premier League match against Brighton).
- As for transfers, Arsenal bolstered their squad during the past week. The experienced England international arrived from Aston Villa for £51 million (plus £4 million in add-ons) Ezri Konsa, who can play in the centre and on the flanks of the defence. Conversely, after seven years spent in north London, he is most likely heading out of the club Gabriel Martinelli, in whom Saudi Arabian club Al Hilal are showing great interest. - Finally, one last interesting detail. Last season, Arsenal were often criticised for their boring, defensive style of play and, above all, for scoring goals from set pieces. This year, Arsenal have played two competitive matches, won both 3-0 and scored all their goals from open play.
