Today's episode of Arsenal Weekly is tough to write, and I think you all know why. The mishandled EFL Cup final is certainly a disappointment for every fan, even though it was „only“ the league cup. A final is a final. What's more, it was against Manchester City, who in recent seasons have always been a step ahead of Arsenal in the final reckoning. Although it would have been great if the team Mikel Arteta's They dominated the final match on Sunday, so there's no need to panic unnecessarily. In the season ahead of the Arsenal footballers lie, I dare say, even more important tasks that need to be brought to a successful conclusion. I'm thinking, of course, of the Premier League, which I see as absolutely paramount. I believe many fans feel the same way. But that doesn't mean I want to downplay the other competitions. The Gunners are still in contention for the prestigious Champions League and the English FA Cup. Now we have an international break, so it's time to evaluate everything and return in full strength.

EFL Cup
- Eight years since the last EFL Cup final, thirty-three years since the last triumph And yet this time it didn't work out either. Arsenal's wait to win the EFL Cup will be extended by at least another year. Unfortunately. Eight years ago, Arsenal were defeated in the final by the same opponent, still under Arsène Wenger. Mikel Arteta couldn't break the curse of this cup either.
- What more can be said about a lost final? Perhaps only that Now it's necessary to put the defeat behind us and focus our attention on the upcoming matches.
Other
- David Raya Became a father. With his wife Tatiana, they welcomed a son into the world on 19.03.2026, who they named Rio. Huge congratulations to both of you!
- He celebrated his nineteenth birthday over the weekend Ethan Nwaneri, who is currently on loan at Marseille. The young Englishman, following the unexpected departure of Roberto De Zerbi, is not getting as much game time as he would wish, but on Sunday in the match against Lille, he came onto the pitch during the first half due to an injury to Mason Greenwood. He seized his chance admirably, because before going into the changing rooms, he opened the scoring of the match. Nevertheless, he was substituted before the end of the match, which the Marseille players ultimately lost.
Next week's programme
Now it's on the agenda representation break, after which Mikel Arteta's charges will appear as part of the FA Cup at St Mary's Stadium, where they will face hosts Southampton in the quarter-final tie. In the following week, Arsenal players will then return to the rhythm they have become accustomed to in recent weeks and indeed months. This means that in addition to weekend matches, they will also have mid-week fixtures. But more on that in the next issue.
