Mikel Arteta is not a new face in north London. He has spent four and a half years as a player at the Emirates Stadium, even wearing the captain's armband for two seasons. To make matters worse, he still bade farewell to his illustrious playing career wearing just the jersey with the cannon on his chest. During his time at Arsenal, the Spanish midfielder played exactly 150 competitive games in the red and white colours, scoring 16 goals. Virtually immediately after the end of his career, Arteta moved into a coaching role. His first coaching engagement was at Manchester City, where he became Pep Guardiola's right-hand man and fulfilled the role of assistant manager. After three-and-a-half years on the Cityzens bench, an offer landed on Arteta's desk that, given his playing career, he perhaps couldn't refuse. The position of head coach or manager at his beloved Arsenal. Arteta accepted the club's offer and took the imaginary helm in north London at the end of 2019, replacing his compatriot Unaie Emery.
