For many years, most of us have had Arsenal inextricably linked with French manager Arsene Wenger, who has led the Gunners to a number of notable successes during his twenty-two year reign in north London. After his departure, however, things went downhill with the club in terms of results and it was only after the arrival of Mikel Arteta that better times began to dawn. Arsenal gradually began to get back to where they belonged. But now the temperamental Spanish manager has the toughest task ahead of him, to win the coveted Premier League winners' trophy.
Mikel Arteta
Former player, but also captain and now manager. That's the shared journey of Mikel Arteta and Arsenal. As a player, the Spaniard spent four and a half years at the Emirates Stadium. His last game in a jersey with a cannon on his chest was also his last game ever as a professional. After his playing career ended, Arteta moved on to coaching. He started his coaching stint at Manchester City, where he served as an assistant under Pep Guardiola. After three and a half years in Manchester, however, an offer came that Mikel Arteta couldn't (and didn't) refuse. So, in December 2019, he sat on the bench of the North London club, replacing his compatriot Unaie Emery.
